Info: Conferences are currently held either online or in hybrid format, with both in-person and virtual options available. Continuing Education credits for counseling and social work are available for most conferences, Details, including CE requirements, are provided on each conference page. Conference materials such as presentation slides are distributed within a week of the conference to attendees.

The Annual Symposium
The Annual Symposium on Family Theory and Family Psychotherapy brings together the liveliest minds in the Bowen network to present their thinking on topics related to the application of Bowen theory. The Symposium also features a Guest Lecturer, whose scientific research is relevant to Bowen theory. This conference has ended. Use the link to learn more and purchase recordings.
The two-day Spring Conference focuses on a single concept related to Bowen theory. Guest scientists, researchers, and leaders in the study of family systems offer presentations related to the topic. The upcoming conference meets April 25-26, 2025. Use the link to learn more.
The monthly Clinical Conferences combine Bowen Center faculty presentations with videotaped clinical interviews. This conference series offers stimulating clinical learning opportunities for those interested in better understanding Bowen theory’s application to the family.
Fall Fundamentals Conference
The Bowen Center’s Fall Fundamentals Conference provides background on family systems thinking related to a topic of current interest to therapists in clinical practice. This conference has ended. Use the link to learn more and purchase recordings.
The annual Faith Leadership Conference explores the challenges and possibilities faced by leaders of faith communities. Each year the conference has a specific focus and includes presentations on Bowen theory, case studies, and discussion.
This day consists of presentations and discussions of ethical issues viewed from the perspective of a family systems model. The seminar is designed to support the participant’s ability to think ethically about programmatic and clinical situations from a systems point of view. The Professional Lectures are free and open to the public. They feature historians, scientists, and clinicians addressing a variety of topics.
These conferences, which draw Bowen thinkers from around the world, have become rich opportunities to explore and extend theory. They allow attendees to engage with people with varied experiences and have served as outreach to programs and individuals in areas previously underserved by Bowen theory.
Continuing Education Information & Policies
Certain programs and events provide Category 1 continuing education (CE) credit hours for counseling or social work. Please review the individual conference pages above to confirm if CE credits will be available for a specific event.
Purchase of Continuing Education Credits indicates that you have read the policies below:
REQUIREMENTS FOR CE ELIGIBILITY:
Pay the CE fee at time of registration. Be sure to choose “Add On” when purchasing your ticket on Eventbrite. CEs are not sold the day of the conference.
Attend each live streamed or in-person class in its entirety. The CE coordinator will note your attendance. We do not offer partial credits for partial attendance.
If livestreamed, enable video and show your name on screen so that you are visible throughout the entirety of the conference, except during designated breaks or lunch.
Submit a completed evaluation no more than 60 days after the event. Shortly after the submission of your completed evaluation, you will be emailed a certificate.
POLICIES:
The Bowen Center does not offer refunds for CEs.
We are unable to offer CE credit for viewing any recordings.
We do not offer partial CE credit for partial event attendance.
It is the sole responsibility of the participant to verify their state’s professional licensure criteria for CE qualifications.
The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family/Georgetown Family Center is authorized by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to provide continuing education credit. This program is a Category I offering.
The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family/Georgetown Family Center has been approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6225. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family/Georgetown Family Center is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
